-My Store "Mitchies Bowties"
Mason Fluty was born on 7/8/2011, with a rare medical condition called “Apert Syndrome”. Only 1 out of 600,000 babies are born with this syndrome. The basic characteristics of “Apert” are all bones in the skull becoming fused in the womb, craniosynostosis, accompanied with the fingers and toes being fused together, called syndactlia. It is a chromosomal disorder, which the 10th chromosome becomes mutated in the child at conception. Mason has already under gone his first Craniostomy, for the back of his skull, at four months old at UCSF, and is awaiting his next craniostomy procedure to correct the frontal vaults, allowing his brain to grow correctly.
Mason’s Next JOURNEY……
Mason needs his fingers separated, so that he can have 10 fully functioning fingers which is completely possible with the help of Dr. Fearon out of Dallas, Tx. who specializes in Mason’s syndrome. The problem is, that the insurance Mason is covered under has denied coverage for Mason to be operated on by Dr. Fearon because it is out of state. Mason has seen a numerous amount of doctors in California, who have told his parents that they would only be able to give Mason 3 fingers on each hand at best. This is just not acceptable, especially with the fact that Mason does have ALL 10 finger bones. He requires his first “finger release” surgery in the month of March. This is a 3 step surgery. The hospital and doctors have generously reduced their fees by 85%. The remaining cost is on his family which is $74,100.00.
